Pair of champions gets to see massive Daytona project up close and personal

Each a decorated champion in his field, NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace spent Monday afternoon giving legendary poker champion Phil Hellmuth a "hot lap" around the 2.5-mile tri-oval of Daytona International Speedway.

The track is also undergoing major renovations and improvements in the Daytona Rising project, and Daytona president Joie Chitwood III gave Wallace and Hellmuth a full-fledged hard-hat tour of the construction site.

"The best view in my life at any race track ever," said Wallace in a track release. "When you can sit up here and see the entire road course all around. You can’t do that at any road course in the country. I noticed when I was halfway (up), I could see all around the race track, every spot. Up here, it's just amazing. You can see every bit of action on the race track; you can even see the beach almost. It's a great view."
