Aspen Dental, the Official Dentist of NASCAR, has given back to veterans in a smile-worthy way. Free dental care was provided to more than 4,600 veterans at offices across the country as part of its annual Day of Service on June 24. That adds up to nearly $2.6 million in donated dentistry on one single day.
Many of the 400-plus Aspen Dental-branded practices that participated also adopted a veteran to the A Smile For Your Service program, which provides veterans with free comprehensive dental services throughout the rest of the year to give them back their smiles. Day of Service is part of Aspen Dental's Healthy Mouth Movement, which offers free dental care to veterans. Since the Healthy Mouth Movement's launch in 2014, Aspen Dental has provided free care to over 16,000 veterans."I'm really excited about working with Aspen Dental to support them in breaking down the barriers to better care, better smiles and better lives," said Danica Patrick, driver of the No. 10 Aspen Dental Ford Fusion.
Last year, nearly 400 participating Aspen Dental offices donated more than $2.1 million of dental services in one day, helping the mouths of more than 4,000 veterans.
Aspen Dental’s Day of Service was created to help fill a void in dental care for veterans. The U.S. Veterans Administration only provides dental benefits to veterans who are classified as 100 percent disabled, have been a prisoner of war, or have a service-connected dental condition or disability. As a result, many veterans are not able to get the dental care they need, which can lead to chronic pain, lack of confidence and overall health issues.
