A lightning warning interrupted Sunday's Brantley Gilbert Big Machine Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway after 12 laps of the 160-lap race had been completed. Cars were ordered to come down pit road at 2:58 p.m. ET, about 14 minutes after the green flag.
A storm with the possibility of severe lightning was spotted on radar and moved over the track in Speedway, Indiana. Rain fell and the race was delayed for nearly two hours. Kyle Busch was the leader at the time of the red, with Martin Truex Jr. also on the front row. Busch, the two-time defending race winner, led all of the first 12 laps. A group of 19 NASCAR Air Titans (split into five convoys), 10 jet dryers, two track vacuums and two Elgin sweeper trucks are available at the 2.5-mile venue.
