Bubba Wallace crossed the finish line second at the end of Sunday's Cup Series race at EchoPark Speedway, but was penalized on the final lap and credited with a 29th-place finish on the results sheet.
Going for the win down the backstretch, the No. 23 23XI Racing Toyota driver attempted to make it three-wide on leaders Carson Hocevar and Ryan Blaney. However, a push from Ty Gibbs as he made the move got the No. 23 loose, and Wallace dipped below the double yellow line, which is a violation at all superspeedway tracks when attempting to gain position.
Wallace had his final lap disallowed and parachuted 27 spots down to the last car on the lead lap.

It's a 27-point swing in the wrong direction for Wallace, and he leaves EchoPark with just nine points for finishing 29th and collecting a single stage point in the opening 60 laps.
Wallace has now finished outside the top 20 in six of the last nine races and heads to North Wilkesboro Speedway 13th in points -- 55 points above the Chase cutline.
