Layne Riggs polished off his march to the postseason's top seed in style in Saturday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, securing his sixth win of the year in double overtime in the regular-season finale at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. As the 10-driver Chase postseason field was set, Riggs started from the pole and drove away to win the Team EJP 175 on the 1.058-mile track, leading 106 of the 189 laps in the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford. Riggs' first win at New Hampshire was the 11th of his Craftsman Truck Series career. Kaden Honeycutt placed third with Stewart Friesen fourth and Cup Series regular Connor Zilisch completing the top five. Grant Enfinger, Ben Rhodes, Daniel Hemric and Tyler Ankrum locked up the remaining available spots on the championship-eligible Chase grid, denying Friesen's last-ditch bid for a postseason spot. Friesen, who crashed last weekend at Richmond Raceway to dim his postseason hopes, rose in the final stage with a pit-strategy play for two tires. That move helped the Canadian driver briefly hold the points advantage over Ankrum, who made multiple pit stops with brake issues on his No. 18 Chevrolet. Staying out when others pitted before the first overtime aided Ankrum's case and his 16th-place finish was just enough. Friesen was eliminated, as was Jake Garcia, whose hopes faded with a penalty for pitting his No. 98 ThorSport Ford outside the box during the Stage 2 intermission. Zilisch swept both stages and led 55 laps in his third Truck Series start of the season. The Craftsman Truck Series' next race is scheduled at Bristol Motor Speedway, where the seven-race Chase postseason will open Thursday, Sept. 17 (8 p.m. ET, FS1, NASCAR Racing Network, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
