Last-Minute D-I-WHY NASCAR Holiday Gifts

We've reached the point of single digits remaining in the year, meaning you're really pushing it if you haven't yet prepared your holiday gifts for the season. Believe it or not, do-it-yourself gifts are just as heartfelt and meaningful as store-purchased gifts! Just kidding. But, since you're out of time, we hope to spark your creativity with our innovative NASCAR-themed DIY craft projects you can whip together in no time flat. Sure, they may leave you asking yourself D-I-Why?, but you made your bed. Let us try to help.

Get it together, friend! You haven't started your holiday shopping, you're procrastinating by checking out NASCAR.com, your driveway's coming apart -- hey, wait, that last thing can play right into your hands if you're still in need of a gift for a NASCAR fan. Grab a chunk of that asphalt, type up a Certificate of Authenticity into Microsoft Word, and BAM -- Uncle John's getting a real piece of a recently repaved race track! Your secret's safe with us.

Where's Aunt Betty going to store all those die-cast cars she's collected from the NASCAR.com shop? You hold the key, thoughtful and lazy gift-giver -- give her a shelf! It's literally a two-by-six piece of wood. No hardware necessary. Everybody's got screws laying around. Plus, this shelf's got that raw, unfinished look.

"NASCAR driver autograph" yields over 1.7 million Google Image Search results. Print out any result, place it in any photo frame, and give it as a gift. Sure, Jimmie Johnson didn't really sign the autograph for your cousin, but it looks so good hanging on the wall!

Any NASCAR fan knows about 200-time race winner Richard Petty's iconic cowboy hat, decorated and embellished in all sorts of ways. If you're out of time with the holidays looming, pick out some feathers and colorful pom-poms at your local arts and crafts store. They're authentic pieces of Richard Petty's hat, if anybody asks. Disingenuous? No question. Easier and cheaper than buying a thoughtful gift? You bet.

Have one of those static magnetic toys where you'd add hair and a beard to a fellow's face using a magic wand? It's an easy switch to make it NASCAR-relevant. Change "Willy" to "Corey" and voila: you've got a toy where you can try to recreate Corey LaJoie's luscious beard.

If the family holiday party is in an hour and you haven't even started thinking about a gift for the resident NASCAR fan, there's another easy solution. Know that flat sheet on your bed that serves no purpose other than adding time to your bed-making routine? Well, we're about to take care of two problems at once: that useless sheet is now a flag designed to cheer on the recipient's favorite driver. A little bit of Sharpie or spray paint will go a long way for this thoughtful-ish gift.

There is, unfortunately, a high likelihood of there being a discarded tire hiding in the woods somewhere nearby. Such disgusting litter polluting nature! Do the right thing: pull it out and give it to a good friend as a gift. It's a race-used tire. Wink-wink, nudge-nudge. NASCAR Green, baby.

With a few exceptions, people might forget what a race-win trophy looks like. Surely you've got a clear glass vase laying around -- and now it's a replica trophy! Glue it to a wooden baseboard, inscribe something generic like "Race Car 400" and your gift recipient will be none the wiser.

On craft day when you were a kid in school, you might have made your parents a coupon book. Mom could redeem a coupon for a free room-cleaning whenever she desired. Dad could trade in his ticket for a hug, perhaps. It was adorable at the time, but we're going to repurpose it since you're running out of time. Give your race fan friend the gift of favors in the form of coupons! Maybe you'll be grabbing the beverages for the next race, or you'll be the one wearing the Denny Hamlin shirt when you're actually a Chase Elliott fan. What you write on your coupons is only limited by your imagination -- which we imagine is quite limited if you've chosen to use this gift guide to hand out holiday gifts.
