Sunoco Rookie of the Year competitor sat out last weekend’s race at Michigan

BRISTOL, Tenn. – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Ryan Truex has been medically cleared to return to competition according to BK Racing officials.
He is expected to be back in the car this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, site of Saturday night’s Irwin Tools Night Race.
The team, which fields entries for Truex, Cole Whitt and Alex Bowman, announced the news via email Thursday.
Truex, 22, crashed during practice last week at Michigan International Speedway and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. He was withheld from Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400, with driver J.J. Yeley handing the driving duties for the No. 83 team.
Truex, younger brother of Sprint Cup driver Martin Truex Jr., is 37th in points. He is one of seven drivers competing for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year title in the Sprint Cup Series. He made his Sprint Cup debut in the Bristol night race last year.
