Jamie McMurray 2017 Season Recap

Jamie McMurray, driver of the No. 1 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet, finished 12th in the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings. See highlights from his 16th year at NASCAR’s top level.

Jamie McMurray kicked off the first 10 races of the 2017 season with six top-10 finishes, including a runner-up finish to Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the spring race at Talladega Superspeedway. We also saw the 41-year-old’s worst finish of the season in the 10-race stretch – a 38th-place result at Martinsville Speedway.

Off track, Jamie McMurray pays close attention to his health and fitness. In May, McMurray joined fellow drivers Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth and Josh Wise (right) in the Assault on Mt. Mitchell, a 102.7-mile bike ride from Spartanburg, South Carolina to the summit of Mt. Mitchell State Park in North Carolina.

This was a scary moment for Jamie McMurray at Pocono Raceway on June 11, 2017, as he was forced to quickly exit his No. 1 Chevrolet as it became engulfed in flames on the backstretch of the 2.5-mile track.

Consistency paid off for Jamie McMurray once again throughout the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series regular season, notching 13 top-10 finishes to make the playoffs. McMurray was one of only three drivers to make it into the postseason without a win, joining Matt Kenseth and Chase Elliott.

Jamie McMurray was one of four drivers who participated in a Goodyear tire test of Charlotte Motor Speedway’s new 2.4-mile, 18-turn road course. McMurray will now have three chances to collect his first career road-course victory next season.

After making it through the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs Round of 16, Jamie McMurray struggled in the second round. Following a strong fifth-place run at Charlotte, a pair of crashes at Talladega and Kansas resulted in dismal finishes of 37th and 34th, eliminating him from title contention.

Jamie McMurray rounded out the year with a 13th-place finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He looks to break a 148-race winless streak when he kicks off his 17th Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season at Daytona in 2018.
