Carl Edwards began to stand out early in his career when he swept Atlanta Motor Speedway for the 2005 season, winning both the spring and fall races at the Georgia track. The then-rookie beat out Jeff Gordon after leading 115 of 325 laps, the race's second-highest total to Dale Earnhardt Jr., who finished fourth after leading 142 laps.

The Auto Club 500 was supposed to be run Sunday, Feb. 24, but rain delayed the race, and eventually pushed it to Monday after a red flag came out on Lap 87. Edwards led 64 of the 250 total laps, winning under caution.
