Tony Stewart's first win came at a track that would become one of his best: Richmond. He held off Bobby Labonte by only 1.115 seconds at the end, but dominated the race in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Chevrolet, leading 333 of 400 laps. Stewart arrived in NASCAR with several series championships under his belt: He was a USAC Triple Crown winner in 1995 and the IndyCar champion in 1997.

Stewart made his premier series debut in 1999 with Joe Gibbs Racing, driving a Pontiac, after a deal for the 1997 series driving for Ranier-Walsh Racing fell through. The pairing would last almost a decade, and the Phoenix win was the front end of back-to-back premier series victories for the 28-year-old Stewart.

Stewart's three wins in 1999 set a record for premier series wins by a rookie, and with 12 top 5s and 21 top 10s, he finished fourth in the driver standings and easily captured the Rookie of the Year award. In 2005, Carl Edwards won four times in his first full-time NASCAR Cup Series season, but at the time he was not considered a rookie because he had too many spot starts in earlier seasons.

Tony Stewart earned his first win of the 2000 season at the "Monster Mile," a track he had finished runner-up at in the fall race the season before. Stewart beat out Matt Kenseth for his breakthrough win at the mile-long track.

Coming off his win at Dover, Tony Stewart spent no time outside Victory Lane as the then-Joe Gibbs Racing driver won the following weekend's race at Michigan after leading a total of 13 laps and having the race end early on Lap 194 of 200 due to rain. This stands as Stewart's only win at Michigan.

Tony Stewart swept the premier series' showing at Dover in 2000 as the then-Joe Gibbs Racing driver earned a win in the fall race at the "Monster Mile." Stewart had a lengthy lead of 6.752 seconds on Johnny Benson Jr. when his No. 20 crossed the start/finish line. This was not Stewart's last time celebrating in Dover's Victory Lane.

Stewart beat out NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt for the coveted Martinsville victory.

Tony Stewart's final win of 2000 came at the second-to-last race of the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Stewart started the race 13th, took the lead from Ricky Rudd on Lap 219 and dominated until the end of the 276-lap event. Stewart led a total of 166 laps to earn his second win at the Miami track. This was Stewart's sixth win of the season -- the most he has been to Victory Lane in his career.

After rolling off the grid seventh, Stewart paced the field for 93 laps en route to his first win of the 2001 season. ‘Smoke’ beat out Jeff Gordon and Rusty Wallace – who led a race-high 276 laps – to the checkered flag, with a margin of victory of 0.372 seconds.

Leading a combined 322 of 500 laps, Jeff Gordon and Rusty Wallace dominated the 2001 running of the famed Bristol night race, but it was Stewart who was celebrating in Victory Lane at the end of the night. "Smoke" beat Richard Childress Racing’s Kevin Harvick to the finish line by 0.487 seconds for his third win of 2001.

In his fourth season, Stewart tamed Atlanta, which had been a tough track for him up till then, with a crash and two mechanical failures in the three races leading up to the 2002 MBNA 500. But there was little doubt this time, with the No. 20 out in front for 143 of the race's 325 laps.

Defending his win from 2001 at this race, Stewart cemented his affinity for Richmond with his third victory at the Virginia track in his first 14 wins. Rain interrupted the race, and Stewart had started from the rear after the team was forced to change the engine after qualifying. But this time, in his first championship season, "Smoke" proved he had patience as well as fire.

It has often been said that Stewart is a pure wheelman and has the driving skills to put anything from a stock car to a dump truck in Victory Lane. His expertise on road courses gave him his reputation as a versatile driver early in his NASCAR career. This was his first win at Watkins Glen, where he has won more races than at any other track, with five victories in 16 starts.

The race ended under caution and Stewart sealed his first victory in the 2003 season. The No. 20 had taken the lead on Lap 190 when the yellow flag flew on the next-to-last lap as Greg Biffle, Jeff Green and Mike Skinner got tangled up.

Overcoming a queasy stomach and leg cramps that delayed the victory celebration, Stewart pushed through pain for the victory despite having road course ace Boris Said on standby. Stewart held off another road-course ringer, Ron Fellows, for the win.

Another road course got Stewart back to Victory Lane in 2005 as he fought through mechanical trouble that plagued several front runners. With 30 laps to go, Stewart said he lost third gear with 30 laps to go and had to hold the shifter in place and hope. It worked. Jeff Gordon, who led the race's first 32 laps also had transmission problems, as did Ricky Rudd and Robby Gordon.

Stewart has four wins at Daytona International Speedway -- this was his first -- more than at any track besides Watkins Glen, where he has taken the checkered flag five times. But all four Daytona wins have come during the summer. He was excited to give the Daytona 500 one more try in 2016 before a serious back injury sidelined him for the start of his final season before retiring.

The victory at Loudon was the centerpiece of a hot summer for Stewart, as he won five of seven consecutive races, starting with back-to-back wins in Sonoma and Daytona, a top five at Chicagoland, then this win. At Loudon, Stewart smoked the field, leading 232 of the 300 laps.

In Stewart's seventh full season as a NASCAR Cup Series driver, he sealed the win at The Brickyard. It was a particularly emotional win with Indianapolis Motor Speedway being the Columbus, Indiana, native's home track. Stewart took the lead from Kasey Kahne with only 11 laps to go and held off the No. 9 with a .794 second margin of victory.

Despite his affinity for Daytona, it took Stewart a while to win at the other superspeedway track: Talladega.
At the finish of the Amp Energy 500, Regan Smith passed Stewart on the inside and was shown the checkered flag. But Smith went below the yellow line on the pass, which was determined to be illegal, and Stewart was awarded the victory. The wild finish also ended a 43-race winless streak for the No. 20 driver. It was his only win of the season.

After missing the first eight races of the season due to an offseason injury, Stewart earned his first win in three years at the road course -- his third career win at the track.

"Smoke" began the event 10th and sat inside the top five for a good portion of the day. He took the lead on Lap 89. Then in a final lap battle with Denny Hamlin, Stewart edged out his former teammate for the win.
