Driving a small-block Chevrolet Chevelle for car owner J. D. Bracken, Bobby Allison scored the first three of his eventual 85 premier-series wins in 1966. Allison took the checkered flag first at Oxford Plains (Maine) Speedway, Islip (New York) Speedway and at the Beltsville (Maryland) Speedway. Despite running just 33 of the 49 races on the schedule, Allison still finished 10th in points.

Bobby Allison drove Bud Moore's Norris Industries Ford to five wins in 1978, including the Daytona 500, and finished second in points. Allison and Moore were inducted into NASCAR's Hall of Fame together in the second class in 2011.

The 1983 season started out on the wrong foot for Bobby Allison, who crashed the DiGard Buick out of the Busch Clash on the fifth lap Feb. 14 at Daytona. But he finished ninth in the Daytona 500 six days later, and was in for a spectacular season.

Among his accomplishments, Bobby Allison won what was then the World 600, NASCAR's longest race, at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He was a three-time Coca-Cola 600 winner, prevailing in 1971, 1981, and here for a final time in 1984.

Bobby Allison scored his final victory in the 1988 Daytona 500, finishing just two car-lengths ahead of his second-place son, Davey. It was only the second time a 1-2 finish was recorded by a father-son combo in NASCAR's top division.

In 1992, Bobby Allison went to Victory Lane again at Daytona, but this time celebrating son Davey Allison's victory as driver of the Robert Yates Racing No. 28 Texaco-Havoline Ford. Judy Allison joined the family celebration, as well.

Since his driving days ended, Allison has remained active in NASCAR and in 2009 was Grand Marshal for the Coca-Cola 600. He posed in the No. 12 Car in the garage area before the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
