HAMPTON, GA — March 26, 1961: Bob Burdick’s only NASCAR Cup win came in the Atlanta 500 at Atlanta International Raceway. Burdick was driving a Pontiac for his dad, Roy Burdick. This was a part-time, family-owned operation and, despite not being able to afford new tires or a professional pit crew, was still competitive in nearly every race they entered. They even had to borrow a replacement rear end from a competitor just to make the race in Atlanta.
