UNKNOWN — 1960s:  Elmhurst, IL, driver Fred Lorenzen first got a taste of NASCAR Cup racing in 1956, but abandoned his effort to run on the United States Auto Club’s stock car circuit where he became champion in both 1958 and 1959.  Lorenzen returned to NASCAR Cup racing in 1960 with limited success, but got his big break when he was hired to drive for Holman-Moody in 1961. UNKNOWN — 1970s:  David Pearson began racing on the NASCAR Cup circuit in 1960 and continued to do so through 1986.  During that period, Pearson entered 574 races and won 105 of them, second all-time only to Richard Petty’s 200 victories.  Pearson finished in the top 10 on 366 occasions, a 63.8 percentage.  He started 113 races from the pole and claimed three NASCAR Cup championships (1966, 1968 and 1969), even though most years he did not run the full Cup schedule.
