Joe Gibbs Racing announced Nov. 17 that Ben Beshore will be Busch's crew chief in 2021. Beshore replaces Adam Stevens, who will now lead the No. 20 team with driver Christopher Bell. Busch and Stevens combined to win 28 races since 2015.

Busch did not advance to the Round 8 after finishing 30th at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval. He missed the cutoff by 49 points to snap his streak of making the Championship 4 at five.

Busch entered the playoffs as the 14th seed with three playoff points compared to the 45 he earned last year to start the postseason.

After leading the series with 12 stage wins in 2019, Busch's first of three stage wins this season did not come until the 19th race of the season at Kansas Speedway.

Busch combined to lead 259 laps at Bristol Motor Speedway this season to push his total to 2,593 laps led at the .533-mile track, which leads all active drivers. He finished fourth and second, respectively, in the two races.

Including the win, Busch finished ninth or better in seven of the final 10 races of the year.

It took until Race 34 of the season at Texas Motor Speedway for Busch to extend his season win streak to 16, which leads all active drivers.

Kyle Busch came home eighth in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, his first points finish outside the top four since 2014. This year marked the 13th playoff appearance for the 2015 and 2019 Cup champion.
