Chase Elliott unveiled a sleek blue-and-white NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet on Wednesday morning, showing off an old-school look that honors his father Bill Elliott’s 1981 Mell-Gear car. Elliott will be running this paint scheme at the Bojangles’ Southern 500 Sunday, September 1 at Darlington Raceway (6 p.m. ET, NBCSN, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

Bill Elliott drove in 13 premier series races in 1981, recording seven top-10 finishes. His first-ever Busch Pole Award also came in 1981 at Darlington Raceway in this car pictured above -- the scheme that inspired Chase's throwback.
