Pocono precision: All-time best drivers at the ‘Tricky Triangle’

With its unique three-turn layout, Pocono Raceway can be difficult to master — but these drivers have done just that. When it comes to the best all-time average finish at Pocono (with a minimum of five starts at the track), this list is full of current — and likely future — Hall of Famers. Read on for the top 10.

10. David Pearson

Starts: Six
Average finish: 12.3
Note: Pearson was all but an automatic top five at Pocono, if his equipment held up, finishing fourth, first, fourth and second in the races he was running at the finish.

9. Kevin Harvick

Starts: 43
Average finish: 12.1
Note: Harvick finally broke through for his first triumph at Pocono in 2020 after going winless in his previous 38 starts at the track.

8. Denny Hamlin

Starts: 33
Average finish: 11.8
Note: The first two victories of Hamlin’s Cup career both came at Pocono, sweeping the races at the track in 2006.

7. Mark Martin

Starts: 54
Average finish: 11.4
Note: The veteran driver sits inside the top five in many categories at Pocono, including: starts, top fives, top 10s and poles.

6. Kyle Larson

Starts: 15
Average finish: 11.0
Note: Since joining Hendrick Motorsports in 2021, Larson has three top 10s in three starts at the track.

5. Brad Keselowski

Starts: 25
Average finish: 10.7
Note: One of the guttiest victories in Pocono history belongs to Keselowski, who won in 2012 after breaking his ankle at a test just a few days before his victory.

4. Jeff Gordon

Average finish: 10.2
Note: Gordon is tied with Denny Hamlin for the most wins at the track and with Mark Martin for most top fives.

3. Tim Richmond

Starts: 14
Average finish: 9.9
Note: Richmond won three races in a row at Pocono (1986 and 1987), joining Bobby Allison as the only driver to do so.

2. Davey Allison

Starts: 13
Average finish: 9.8
Note: Allison might not have visited Victory Lane at Pocono but he managed to finish in the top six in eight of his 13 starts at the track.

Starts: 9
Average finish: 9.4
Note: Byron has been running on the lead lap at the end of all nine of his starts at Pocono, putting him first on this list despite "just" two top-five finishes here.
