Through the years, some of New York's best have raced at Riverhead Raceway, with competitors like Bud Anderson, Tommy Washburn, Charlie Jarzombek, Wayne Anderson, Bill Park, Justin Bonsignore and Kyle Soper among those who have claimed track championships in the headlining Modified class. The track is part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour has become a staple of the Riverhead Raceway schedule, having competed at the track almost every year since its inaugural season in 1985. The first Tour race at the track was won by Jimmy Spencer on July 10, 1985.

Riverhead Raceway's tight confines and high banking in the corners creates an intense atmosphere for competitors, meaning only the best of the best typically find their way to Victory Lane at the last race track on Long Island.
