Newman once again showed consistency and longevity throughout the entire year, finishing 35 out of the 36 races. He raced his way to a 14.6 average finish after averaging a 19.9 starting position, securing a trio of top fives and 14 top 10s in the process.

The skillful veteran quickly adjusted to the new team and enjoyed a stretch of eight top 10s in just 13 races from Bristol to New Hampshire -- his highest finish being a fifth-place run in the return to Daytona.

Despite not winning a race during the regular season, Newman secured enough points to propel him into the final playoff position and the Round of 16 for the first time since 2017. An eighth-place finish at Indianapolis vaulted him over Daniel Suarez in the regular-season finale.

Newman stormed out of the gate in the first two playoff races, finishing 10th at Las Vegas and fifth at Richmond. However, troubles at the Roval led to a Round of 16 exit for the Roush Fenway wheelman.

Nearly claiming his first victory of 2019, Newman and Ryan Blaney battled hard down the final stretch at Talladega, resulting in a photo finish for the ages. Newman was edged by just .007 seconds; the runner-up finish matched his highest ever at the track (2017).

Newman ended the season with a solid seventh-place finish at Miami, fourth highest of all non-Championship 4 drivers. After an impressive first season at Roush Fenway, 2020 could be even better for the No. 6 with new teammate Chris Buescher.
