Before debuting in NASCAR, Shane van Gisbergen carved out a legendary Australian Supercars career, winning three series titles (2016, 2021 and 2022).

In 2023, Shane van Gisbergen entered his first NASCAR race, piloting the Trackhouse Racing No. 91 Chevrolet for the inaugural Chicago Street Race. He led nine laps and held off Justin Haley to pull off a stunning victory, ultimately kickstarting his stock car career.

After winning Chicago and making an additional start at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, SVG returned to Australia and earned his third career win in the iconic Bathurst 1000 race.

SVG finished the 2023 Supercars season in second place and later announced a decision to focus solely on NASCAR in 2024 and beyond. He ended his Supercars career with 80 race wins and 178 podium finishes from 2007 to 2023.

Van Gisbergen contested the full 2024 NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series season with Kaulig Racing, winning three times on road courses, finishing 12th in the standings and earning Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors.

SVG also made 12 Cup starts for Kaulig Racing in 2024 but went winless. His closest call came at Watkins Glen International in September, when a slip-up from the lead on the final lap handed the victory over to Chris Buescher.

Van Gisbergen teamed up with fellow Trackhouse Racing driver Connor Zilisch to compete in the 2025 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in the GTD Pro class. Ten years prior, SVG finished second in the GTD class.

Van Gisbergen moved to the Cup Series full-time in 2025, driving Trackhouse's No. 88 Chevrolet. He scored his second career Cup victory and his first of the campaign in the inaugural race at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City.

A year after his crushing defeat at The Glen, SVG bounced back to win in the Finger Lakes region, marking his fourth consecutive road-course victory. Van Gisbergen also became the winningest rookie in Cup history with the triumph, and later upped his record with a fifth win at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval.

After the season finale at Phoenix Raceway, van Gisbergen was honored with the 2025 Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award. He finished 12th in the final standings after being eliminated in the Round of 16 in the Cup Series Playoffs. SVG’s stellar season was good enough for him to join Jeff Gordon as the only drivers to triumph in five consecutive road-course races.

In 2026, SVG moved to the No. 97 Chevrolet with Trackhouse Racing, donning the number from his Supercars days as young phenom Connor Zilisch swapped into the No. 88 for his rookie campaign.

Another masterclass! Although an alternate strategy had the Kiwi 29.2 seconds behind race leader Ty Gibbs with 18 laps remaining, the road-course master soared late, overtaking the leaders with eight laps to go and winning at Watkins Glen International by 7.288 seconds. The triumph was van Gisbergen's first Cup win in the No. 97, a number that holds personal significance to SVG.
