Another kick-off to NASCAR's tour of the West is complete, with both new rules and a first-time Las Vegas winner in Joey Logano emerging from Sunday's Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube. With the third race of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series campaign in the record books, here are the five key takeaways from Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

No. 22 for the No. 22 driver: Joey Logano fended off a late challenge from teammate Brad Keselowski to score a 1-2 finish for Team Penske, which has now won two of the first three events of the young season. Logano also pushed his all-time win total to a number matching his car number, tying NASCAR Hall of Famer Terry Labonte with his 22nd career win. "I didn't get to race against him a whole bunch, but it is an amazing accomplishment, something that I look at actually quite frequently to see where you stack up between all these great racers," said Logano, who added that he had a Labonte die-cast car growing up.

Rules redux: The 2019 rules package's full offering came Sunday at Las Vegas, with some predictions coming through and others turning conventional wisdom on its ear. Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer, called the progress ongoing. "I think it was good to see directionally that guys to come up through the pack and make a pass for the lead," O'Donnell said. "But still work to do. It's early. Three different winners, three races, so we'll take this one and head to Phoenix."

RCR's mixed fortunes: Richard Childress Racing teammates Austin Dillon and rookie Daniel Hemric laid down impressive shows of speed by leading both practice sessions, but neither could convert in Sunday's 400. Dillon lost ground with a penalty for too many crew members over the wall on his first pit stop and placed 20th, one lap down. Hemric was 23rd, another lap off the pace. "It was a bummer," Dillon said. "I think we had a top-10 car, just never got the track position we needed. We lost it from the beginning and when you lose it, you can't ever get it back."

Harvick hampered: Busch Pole winner Kevin Harvick led a race-high 88 of the 267 laps, but wound up fourth with a car that battled handling conditions that worsened as clock ticked into the afternoon. Harvick also had speedy pit service on his side, but slick conditions in his No. 1 pit stall cost him time exiting pit road. "Qualifying paid off for us, and early in the race we were able to lead a lot of laps," Harvick said. "As the race went on, we just kept getting tighter and tighter. That's two weeks in a row that our car has fallen off a little bit, and we've have a tough time adjusting to that."

Stenhouse solid so far: Ricky Stenhouse Jr. turned in a sixth-place finish Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, falling one position shy of notching the first top-five effort of his career on a 1.5-mile track. Stenhouse credited his Roush Fenway Racing No. 17 Ford team for being a quick study with the 2019 rules package, but said he knows the rest of the field will strive to close the gap. "So I felt like we did a lot of work in the offseason at Roush Fenway, and I'm glad to see that work's paid off," Stenhouse said. "But now we've got to continue to develop because I know everybody else is going to keep getting faster."
