Bust out the yellow tape. We're bringing NASCAR rookie stripes to real-life scenarios for the good of everyone.

Rookie Stripes?

In NASCAR, bright-yellow rookie stripes adorn the rear bumpers of first-year drivers (and also when a driver makes their first start at a track -- even NASCAR champion Bill Elliott at Road America in 2018). These markings alert fellow competitors that the driver ahead might not be as experienced in every situation. Here are some other times in life a set of bright yellow rookie stripes might come in handy to warn, "Careful, I'm new at this!"

Student Drivers

The most obvious parallel to a NASCAR driver's rookie stripes is an actual new driver on the streets. Sure, some student drivers slap a lazy “student driver" magnet on their bumper, but what if bright yellow NASCAR-style rookie stripes were a requirement? If you were a new driver, wouldn't you appreciate if everybody knew to take it a little easier around you?

Tattoo Artists

Tattoos are forever -- just ask Austin Dillon. Wouldn't you want to know if the person etching a permanent mark into your skin had done this before or not?

Starting a New Job

When you start a new job, it takes a little bit of time to get used to the workflow. How does the company do things? What's fair game to microwave in the lunchroom? Who's the office gossip queen? A bright yellow strip of tape affixed to your office attire would give your co-workers a heads-up you're still learning the ropes.

Airline Pilots

Actually, maybe it's better to remain blissfully ignorant of when it's your pilot's first day on the job.

Karaoke Night

When you walk up to the mic for the first time, you're not going to be a rockstar, as much as you can totally nail all the notes in "Total Eclipse of the Heart." A rookie stripe affixed to your microphone would indicate to everybody else at Applebee's that this is new territory for you, and maybe it's best to take a breather outside before resuming their meals.

Bungee Jumping

“Hey, so, my name's Blade, and uhh, this is my first time tying a knot. Hope this works!"

Credit Card Chip Readers

Is there a course one can take at a local community college to learn how to use a chip-based credit card reader correctly? The machine yells and beeps if you remove your card too soon. Sirens blair, doors lock, and a SWAT team breaks through the windows if you remove your card even a nanosecond too late. There's no in-between; the only certainty is the cashier making you feel like Morgan Shepherd using a smartphone. The obvious solution is adding rookie stripes to warn everyone nearby to have a little patience.

Social Media

Have you ever noticed people new to social media tend to way over-share? A rookie stripe forced across new users' profile photos for 90 days might help send a warning that the posts you're about to read are those of a social media novice.
