Top 10 moments of the Xfinity Series era

The NASCAR Xfinity Series era draws to an end after Saturday's season finale at Phoenix, closing out an entitlement partnership that began in 2015. The circuit will be known as the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series starting next season.

To bid the era a fond farewell, Xfinity Racing conducted a poll of NASCAR media members, asking to name their top 10 moments from that 11-season span. Here is the product of those ballots.

Honorable mentions

Notable: Just outside of the list, three Xfinity Series moments tied for 11th place in the balloting. Included in those mentions are two Martinsville thrillers and a Lone Star classic.

Ty Gibbs' contact with teammate Brandon Jones in the next-to-last race of the 2022 season at Martinsville drew votes, as did Justin Allgaier's win there the next fall when Austin Hill and Sheldon Creed opened an avenue after rough racing between teammates in late stages. More recently came last year's Texas Motor Speedway brilliance from Sam Mayer in a photo finish over Ryan Sieg.

No. 10: Clements' spin and win

Date: Aug. 27, 2017

Track: Road America

Notable: The veteran Clements was rewarded with his first win in his 256th Xfinity Series start, righting his car after a synchronized spin from contact with Matt Tifft in the late going. "I’m extremely pleased right now, and it feels like a dream," said Clements, who led 10 of the 45 laps.

No. 9: Gibbs' dazzling debut

Date: Feb. 20, 2021

Track: Daytona International Speedway road course

Notable: The 18-year-old prodigy won in his first national-series start, taking the lead on the final restart in double overtime on Daytona's road-circuit layout. He became the sixth driver to win in his Xfinity Series debut.

No. 8: Frenzy at Fontana

Date: March 19, 2016

Track: Auto Club Speedway

Notable: Three drivers led at different points of a wild final lap, but Austin Dillon squeaked through for a dramatic win. To accomplish that, he slipped by an ailing Kyle Busch, who had a tire come apart after taking the white flag, and a sputtering Daniel Suárez, who ran out of fuel on the backstretch.

No. 7: An international first

Date: Nov. 19, 2016

Track: Homestead-Miami Speedway

Notable: Suárez became NASCAR's first international champion for one of its national tours, hoisting the Xfinity trophy with a season-ending victory at Homestead. Suárez won three times in his title-winning campaign, and he jumped to the Cup Series the following year.

Date: June 14, 2025

Track: Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez

Notable: NASCAR's first national-series visit to Mexico was highlighted by a popular victory. Suárez recovered from a last-place starting spot after a crash during qualifying to cap what he called "a very special day" in his home country.

No. 5: Reddick, in a blink

Date: Feb. 17, 2018

Track: Daytona International Speedway

Notable: NASCAR officials had to go an extra decimal place to figure the margin of victory in the 2018 season opener, won by Tyler Reddick by a scant 0.0004 seconds over Elliott Sadler. The photo finish came after a grueling five overtimes, stretching the race 23 extra laps.

No. 4: Spin cycle at Bristol

Date: Sept. 17, 2021

Track: Bristol Motor Speedway

Notable: AJ Allmendinger sealed a crucial victory in a frantic overtime finish, crashing across the line with Austin Cindric and sparking a massive post-race pileup. The win helped Allmendinger hold off Cindric in the pursuit of the Regular Season Championship, claiming that crown by just 10 points.

No. 3: Hemric flips out

Date: Nov. 6, 2021

Track: Phoenix Raceway

Notable: Hemric picked the best possible time to notch his first Xfinity Series win, securing the title with a last-lap pass of Austin Cindric in the season finale at Phoenix. He punctuated the feat with a backflip from his No. 18 car, saying, "I've been waiting a long damn time to do that."

No. 2: Allgaier, at long last

Date: Nov. 9, 2024

Track: Phoenix Raceway

Notable: In his seventh Championship 4 appearance, Allgaier finally hoisted the title in his 14th Xfinity season. Allgaier outdistanced Cole Custer, AJ Allmendinger and Austin Hill in overtime, bringing the championship to JR Motorsports for the first time since 2018.

No. 1: Briscoe's finish for the ages

Date: May 21, 2020

Track: Darlington Raceway

Notable: The emotions overflowed for Chase Briscoe after an epic final-lap contest with Kyle Busch in the series' first race since the COVID-19 outbreak. Briscoe scrubbed both the wall and Busch's fenders before taking the checkered flag by a 0.086-second margin.
