Tanner Gray finished eighth in the Strat 200 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Friday to earn his first career top-10 finish.
The top 10 finish for Gray added 29 points to his season total.
Gray qualified in 14th position at 175.359 mph. The second-year driver has one top-10 finish in his career.
Friday’s race was the first of Gray’s career at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The Mooresville, North Carolina native’s starting and finishing positions compared favorably to his career averages, starting three spots higher than his career mark of 17.2 and completing the race nine places ahead of his 16.6 career average finish.
Gray took on a field of 32 drivers on the way to his eighth-place finish. The race endured five cautions and 25 caution laps. There were 15 lead changes.
Kyle Busch secured the win in the race, and Johnny Sauter finished second. Austin Hill placed third, Matt Crafton secured fourth, and Ben Rhodes rounded out the top five.
In addition to winning the race, Busch won both of the first two stages to complete a dominant day in Las Vegas.
