Brennan Poole finished 15th in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday after heading into the race with an average finish position of 30.3 this season.
Poole’s result added 22 points to his season total. Poole is now 32nd in the NASCAR Cup Series standings with 193 points.
Poole started in 32nd position. The first-year driver does not have a top-10 finish in his career.
Saturday’s race was the first of Poole’s career at Daytona International Speedway.
The Woodlands, Texas native began the race one spot behind his career mark of 31.2, but finished 15 places ahead of his career average of 30.3.
Poole raced against a field of 40 drivers on the way to his 15th-place finish. The race endured six cautions and 21 caution laps. Prior to the checkered flag there were 35 lead changes.
William Byron brought home the win in the race, and Chase Elliott took second. Denny Hamlin placed third, Martin Truex Jr brought home fourth, and Bubba Wallace finished off the top five.
Joey Logano got off to a great start in the race, winning the first two stages, but couldn’t hold on to end up in Victory Lane.
