NASCAR officials did not levy penalties against Austin Hill or Shane van Gisbergen following NASCAR Cup Series action at Chicagoland Speedway over the weekend, per the sanctioning body’s penalty report released Tuesday.
Hill, driver of the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, and Shane van Gisbergen, pilot of the No. 97 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet, made contact during Stage 1 of the eero 400 at Chicagoland, with van Gisbergen’s No. 97 finding Hill’s No. 33 on Lap 48. Hill’s No. 33 suffered rear-end damage that proved terminal due to the contact. Before heading to pit road and the garage, Hill sideswiped van Gisbergen under caution. Hill finished the race in 37th, while van Gisbergen tallied a 25th-place finish.

In the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, a penalty was levied against the No. 51 Jeremy Clements Racing team in the NASCAR at Chicagoland Speedway, the sanctioning body announced Tuesday.
Front-tire changer Shiloh Windsor and jackman Nicholas Covey have been suspended for the next two events, running through Indianapolis Speedway on July 25, after a detachment of Jeremy Clements’ left-rear wheel on Lap 93 in Saturday’s Cuervo 300, causing a caution and violating Sections 8.8.10.4.A&D in the NASCAR Rule Book.
The Cup Series and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series next race at EchoPark Speedway on July 11 and 12, respectively.
