O’Reilly Series points leader Sheldon Creed loses power early at Phoenix

Sheldon Creed lost power in his No. 00 Haas Factory Team Chevrolet during the Stage 1 caution of Saturday evening’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase race at Phoenix Raceway.

Creed entered the sixth race in The Chase presented by Mobil 1 with a two-point lead in the championship over Jesse Love, who started on pole and went on to sweep the stages and win Saturday’s race at Phoenix to tally a 75-point evening in the Arizona desert.

Creed led eight laps and finished second in the opening stage, collecting nine points before the mechanical issues. He stalled on the track, necessitating a push from a safety truck back to pit road after teammate Sam Mayer nudged him from behind in an attempt to refire.

The No. 00 returned to the track for Stage 2 three laps down in 37th place.

Creed ultimately finished two laps down in 32nd place, dropping the points lead to Love and now unofficially sits fourth in points — 59 markers back of the defending series titleholder.
