Cup Series race at New Hampshire begins on wet-weather tires

Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (USA Network, HBO Max, PRN Radio, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) began with all cars on wet-weather tires after rain showers came through Loudon in the early afternoon. The Dollar Tree 301 went green just over an hour after its updated 2 p.m. ET slated start.

NASCAR has wet-weather tires on hand at short-oval tracks where conditions are damp, including Phoenix Raceway, Martinsville Speedway, North Wilkesboro Speedway and Richmond Raceway.

Goodyear allotted four sets of wet-weather tires for the Cup race at New Hampshire along with seven sets of its regular Cup tread for the 301-mile race.

Polesitter Tyler Reddick led the field to green for the start of Sunday’s race, which marks the penultimate race of the regular season before the 10-race Chase postseason. However, on Lap 1, the No. 45 23XI Racing driver spun from the lead without contact. Denny Hamlin and Chris Buescher stopped behind Reddick to avoid significant contact. All three drivers continued.
