LEADER LOGANO: After finishing last year 17th in the point standings and missing the playoffs, Joey Logano is off to a strong start in 2018. He finished fourth at Daytona and nabbed a strong sixth-place finish at Atlanta. The pair of top-six finishes put the Team Penske driver atop the point standings, marking the first time he has been points leader in the first two races of the season since he won the 2015 Daytona 500.

'SEVEN-TIME' ... IN 35TH?: Jimmie Johnson's 27th-place finish on Sunday was not the response he needed to his 38th-place crash-out the week prior at Daytona. The seven-time champion sits 35th in the standings, last among every driver that has started both races this year. Still, it’s early in the season and there’s plenty of time for Johnson & Co. to turn 2018 into a potential eighth championship season. But they’ll have to break a 25-race losing streak first.

CHEVY'S STRUGGLES: Chevrolet teams are still figuring out the new Camaro ZL1 through two races. Kyle Larson’s ninth-place No. 42 was the highest finishing Chevy on Sunday. Chase Elliott’s 10th-place was second-best, but the Hendrick Motorsports driver also said after the race the team “has a lot of work to do.” Before the race, No. 24 crew chief Alan Gustafson told his driver to be patient with the new model. “We don’t have the car the way we want it to and we don’t have the pace in it right now and we just have to be smart,” Gustafson said. “(We) ultimately had to execute the race and there were going to be times during the race that his patience would be tested and challenged because guys were a considerable amount faster than he was ... he did a great job. I think the guys did a great job executing so we got a decent finish out of it.”

EXPERIENCE MATTERS IN ATLANTA: Atlanta’s bumpy, rough surface is one that many drivers enjoy – but also one where experience often plays into one’s favor due to its tricky nature. Sunday was no exception, as the top-eight finishers were all veteran names. “There’s no coincidence,” race winner Kevin Harvick said on the top-eight names. “This is a race track that takes a lot of experience and there’s a lot of things that you have to know about your car and know about the race track to get the car around the race track.” Next week at Las Vegas could be a different story.

WEATHERING THE WEATHER: Sunday’s forecast initially looked dismal for racing, but a break in the middle of the afternoon allowed the race to get started at 3:32 p.m. ET., about two hours after the rescheduled green-flag time. A bit of luck was on the side of the racing community as the rain began to fall shortly after the checkered flag flew. “It’s raining now,” Clint Bowyer said after the race. ”How about that? Mother Nature allowed this to happen …” The rain initially washed away the rubber on the race track but it took more rubber as the race progressed and many of the expected favorites put on strong performances.
