They may be racing in Bristol this weekend, but before the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to the legendary half-mile, a handful of teams will be a bit further north, taking part in an open test session at Kentucky Speedway.

On hand at the 1.5-mile track located in Sparta as part of a two-day (Monday/Tuesday) Goodyear tire test are drivers Ryan Newman (Richard Childress Racing), Jamie McMurray (Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates), Greg Biffle (Roush Fenway Racing) and Brett Moffitt (Michael Waltrip Racing).

Those four will be joined by at least six others – Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Hendrick Motorsports), Matt Kenseth (Joe Gibbs Racing), Brad Keselowski (Team Penske), Sam Hornish Jr. (Richard Petty Motorsports), Ryan Blaney (Wood Brothers Racing) and Danica Patrick (Stewart-Haas Racing) Wednesday for a one-day team test.

According to Team Penske officials, Keselowski, the 2012 series champion, will be the driver of record for the test, but will be paired with teammate Joey Logano‘s No. 22 team rather than his own No. 2 team.

It will be the fourth team test of the year. NASCAR banned private testing for 2015, but has provided 13 team test opportunities to allow teams to work on the 2015 and in some instances 2016 rules packages.

Prior to last weekend’s race at Texas Motor Speedway, teams tested at Richmond International Raceway; at month’s end (April 29), an open test is slated for Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

According to Kentucky Speedway officials, gates will not be open for the test. However, fans are invited to watch at no charge from a designated area on the speedway’s backstretch.

Testing is scheduled to from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Kentucky Speedway will host the Sprint Cup, XFINITY and Camping World Truck Series for a NASCAR tripleheader on July 9-11.
