Won’t you help us write an end-of-year recap? Simply fill in the blanks and let your imagination run wild. Just, please, don’t do too good of a job so our editors won’t replace us.
Let me tell you what the 2020 NASCAR season was like as a fan of
— Aric Almirola Christopher Bell Ryan Blaney Alex Bowman Clint Bowyer Chris Buescher Kurt Busch Kyle Busch William Byron Cole Custer Matt DiBenedetto Austin Dillon Ty Dillon Chase Elliott Denny Hamlin Kevin Harvick Jimmie Johnson Erik Jones Matt Kenseth Brad Keselowski Joey Logano Ryan Newman Tyler Reddick Daniel Suarez Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Martin Truex Jr. Bubba Wallace .
Man, what a
— struggle challenge thrill season year time 2020 disaster success trip
it was! The season started out with a Daytona 500 that could be described as nothing short of
— dramatic chaotic breathtaking eventful thrilling frantic electrifying overwhelming hair-raising unpredictable wild
– and that was just a sign of things to come.
— Nobody Not even the smartest among us Only people who are really good at fantasy sports Few
could have predicted how the pandemic would
— affect disrupt shake up spice up discombobulate rattle the cage of
the NASCAR season in the spring – but, of course, being the fan of the driver I am, switching to iRacing for a few months made me feel totally
— jazzed pumped preoccupied dismayed in a tizzy disgusted disappointed confused hopeful lost thrilled .
The eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series was
— a fine substitute fun as heck an enjoyable show good to pass the time a little too computer-y for me probably the first esports event I watched finally William Byron’s time to shine an excuse for me to finally buy iRacing ,
but there’s nothing quite as
— exciting good riveting visceral loud real
as the real thing! When NASCAR returned to the track in May, I felt more
— pumped excited relieved thrilled hopeful delighted hot and bothered optimistic nervous pee, from excitement, in my pants pee, to mimic NASCAR drivers, in my pants
than ever.
NASCAR’s return to the track was
— no walk in the park not easy easy peasy exactly what I was hoping not what I was hoping quite eventful uneventful filled with drama nerve-wracking something else
for my driver, especially when
— Chase Elliott performed Kyle Busch’s trademark bow the road to the playoffs meant lots of drama the playoffs happened well, you know uh, I would rather not say silly season news started to drop Denny Hamlin showed up with that face mask he scored that big win he did the thing .
The best part of the season, though, was when
— Denny Hamlin won the Daytona 500 Kevin Harvick won nine races Chase Elliott kicked some butt on the road courses William Byron won his first race Cole Custer scored a win a photo finish at Talladega Austin Dillon returned to Victory Lane NASCAR went to Darlington three times the All-Star Race had underglow on the cars Chase Elliott’s jackman saved his season Kurt Busch won at Las Vegas Bubba Wallace made headlines Jimmie Johnson led a fan salute
– though,
— Clint Bowyer’s pocket tweet when Kevin Harvick missed the Championship 4 Timmy Hill iRacing with his cat Jeff Gordon racing iRacing Chase Elliott’s middle-finger salute watching drivers try to drink while wearing face masks Tyler Reddick thinking the race was over too soon fans returning to the track
had me
— crying laughing dying inside smiling hopeful for the future hooting and hollering , too.
The 2020 season meant we said goodbye to Jimmie Johnson, a driver I’ve always
— admired cheered for thought was very handsome envied worshipped praised lauded regarded highly disliked felt strongly about detested despised ignored cosplayed as ,
especially for
— all those championships 83 race wins his charity work his beard, which contains the right amount of gray his lovely family his never-give-up attitude that off-road racing background of his his extensive grandfather clock collection the simple fact that he’s Jimmie Johnson the fact that 48 is my favorite number .
I wish I could
— run the Boston Marathon have unmatched success grow a beard become a sports icon iRace befriend famous people retire
like Jimmie! We also said goodbye to Clint Bowyer, who’s probably going to
— entertain us all provide plenty of laughs add some fun kill it be a consummate professional give Jeff Gordon dozens of nicknames fart in a jar
in the FOX broadcast booth next year.
And, of course, we can’t talk about the 2020 season without talking about
— Cole Custer winning Rookie of the Year Matt Kenseth’s return to the driver’s seat Jimmie Johnson’s awful luck the announcement Alex Bowman would go to the No. 48 car in 2021 Kyle Busch and Adam Stevens splitting up Kyle Busch’s early elimination .
That’s something that made me feel so
— old amped up worried hopeful optimistic pessimistic embarrassed !
There’s certainly a
— bright merry sunny victory-filled crash-filled relaxing depressing bitter
future ahead. I just hope my driver can
— measure up step it up outperform overperform get it together keep the momentum rolling follow me on Twitter disappoint me again !
Lastly,
— I can’t believe I totally called that please stop reminding me it is not getting old remembering I am so hyped that it’s pretty much the best thing ever it’s pretty much the worst thing ever
we’re crowning a new NASCAR champion in Chase Elliott. Even though people give him a hard time for
— misquoting Billy Joel lyrics not going by his real name, William Clyde being a little on the quiet side his run-ins with Kyle Busch his run-ins with Denny Hamlin being so darn popular ,
you have to admit he’s
— a heck of a driver fun to follow on social media the champion popular for a reason Bill Elliott’s son
and
— isn’t afraid to show it has the hardware to back it up you cannot tell me otherwise I stand behind what I said I could change my mind at any moment .
Maybe that’s why he’s
— the Most Popular Driver named Chase Elliott driving the No. 9 car Chase Elliott the champ so darn popular !
Whenever that si-reen sounds in the Dawsonville Pool Room, I’m filled with
— pride excitement rage indifference empathy for the neighbors who don’t like noise .
Anyway, I can’t wait for
— 23XI Racing Trackhouse Racing Live Fast Motorsports more racing a new season Nashville Superspeedway the Daytona 500 a brand new fantasy team Kyle Larson in the No. 5 Chase Briscoe in the No. 14 Christopher Bell in the No. 20 Bubba Wallace in the No. 23 Erik Jones in the No. 43 Daniel Suarez in the No. 99 new merch another season of excitement another season of disappointment
next year! Even as a
— Aric Almirola Christopher Bell Ryan Blaney Alex Bowman Clint Bowyer Chris Buescher Kurt Busch Kyle Busch William Byron Cole Custer Matt DiBenedetto Austin Dillon Ty Dillon Chase Elliott Denny Hamlin Kevin Harvick Jimmie Johnson Erik Jones Matt Kenseth Brad Keselowski Joey Logano Ryan Newman Tyler Reddick Daniel Suarez Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Martin Truex Jr. Bubba Wallace
fan, I think
— Aric Almirola Christopher Bell Ryan Blaney Alex Bowman Clint Bowyer Chase Briscoe Chris Buescher Kurt Busch Kyle Busch William Byron Cole Custer Matt DiBenedetto Austin Dillon Ty Dillon Chase Elliott Denny Hamlin Kevin Harvick Jimmie Johnson Erik Jones Matt Kenseth Brad Keselowski Kyle Larson Joey Logano Ryan Newman Tyler Reddick Daniel Suarez Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Martin Truex Jr. Bubba Wallace
is the driver to beat next year – as long as
— Aric Almirola Christopher Bell Ryan Blaney Alex Bowman Clint Bowyer Chase Briscoe Chris Buescher Kurt Busch Kyle Busch William Byron Cole Custer Matt DiBenedetto Austin Dillon Ty Dillon Chase Elliott Denny Hamlin Kevin Harvick Jimmie Johnson Erik Jones Matt Kenseth Brad Keselowski Joey Logano Ryan Newman Tyler Reddick Daniel Suarez Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Martin Truex Jr. Bubba Wallace
doesn’t get in the way. At the end of the day, though, I think everybody can agree
— Chase Elliott is the champ Jimmie Johnson will be missed it’s amazing the 2020 season happened it’s turkey time 2020 was one heck of a year 2021 will finally be the year at least nobody showed up with their face on the hood of a car this year the Applebee’s commercial that played during the races was super catchy .
